Trains at Alghero Airport
If you look at a map of the railway in Sardinia it is in the shape of a huge Y with the main route beginning in Cagliari and running to Chillivani via Oristano. The line eventually divides with one line going to Sassari and Porto Torres and the other to Olbia and Golfo Aranci.
There is no railway at Alghero Airport but there is a station about fifteen minutes walk from the centre of the town and marina. To get to the town from the station turn left out of the station on to Don Minzoni and walk for about five blocks until you reach the beach and then go left along Via Garibaldi.
Alghero Airport Trains
Alghero station runs trains operated by Ferrovie della Sardenia. There are daily trains making the 35 minute journey from Alghero to Sassari where you can catch a connecting train operated by Trenitalia to reach other destinations including Cagliari.
Tickets must be purchased separately at the respective stations and as a guide the cost of the journey from Alghero-Sassari is €2.20. Sassari to Cagliari at a standard second class fare will cost about €13.65 single fare.
There is a small left luggage facility at the FdS train station in Alghero which is convenient if you need to leave some luggage before setting off on a trip
