Alghero Airport
Sardinia Alghero Airport is also known as Fertilia Airport (Alghero Riviera del Corallo) and is the principal airport for northern Sardinia located on the north west coast 12km from the centre of Alghero. It is one of the three main airports serving Sardinia: the others being Olbia Airport in the north-east and Cagliari Airport in the south.
Alghero Airport opening during the Second World War has grown steadily over the years. In the 1960s a large terminal building was built and the runway was extended to meet the demands of larger aircraft. Military activities continued at Alghero Airport until the 1980s, when the started to operate just civilian flights.
The airport has one terminal which has just been completely modernised and refurbished to cope with the increased number of passengers and optimise all the space. It is perfectly positioned for the hordes of summer visitors arriving by both regular and charter flights. Last year Sardinia Alghero Airport handled almost one million passengers.
